Pretoria North at a glance

Pretoria straddles the Apies River and extends eastward into the foothills of the Magaliesberg mountains. It has a reputation as an academic city and center of research. Pretoria is the eighth richest city in Africa and the fourth richest in South Africa.

Pretoria North: As the name suggests, is situated to the north of the city centre. It lies 8 kilometres (5 mi) from Church Square, just north of the Magaliesberg range of mountains that is the accepted boundary between town and northern suburbs and adjacent to Paul Kruger Street (the M1) and the railway line from Pretoria to Polokwane, further north even than the suburbs of Rietfontein, Villieria and Wonderboom South, Pretoria North lies on the other side of the Apies River from Annlin.

This strip of undulating hills of green, which are the lower hills or foothills of the Magaliesberg, is also home to the Wonderboom Nature Reserve, one of the major reasons for heading out to the northern suburbs specifically to visit the incredible example of the wild willowleaf fig tree, or wonderboom (miracle tree) that is over a thousand years old. Planted at the foot of the Magaliesberg, the outlying branches of this enormous tree have rooted themselves around the parent tree, forming three concentric circles of daughter trees around the original parent tree. In total, the tree and its daughters cover a 50 metre area.

With transport being its main industry, Pretoria North has two automobile sales corridors in the form of Rachel De Beer street and Gerrit Maritz streets being home to over 50 car dealerships. Pretoria North has one of the highest concentrations of car dealerships in the country. Transport is the core of Pretoria North's industrial activity.

Pretoria North sometimes refers to the general area to the North of the City of Pretoria. This general definition is broad and encompasses the Wonderboom area to the east of Lavender Road and Akasia to the west of Daan De Wet Nel Drive. This broad definition of Pretoria North is a colloquial concept and is not to be confused with the concept in this article.

The Onderstepoort campus of the University of Pretoria Faculty of Veterinary Science, and the Wonderboom Airport are nearby.

Despite sounding as if it should describe a collection of suburbs north of the city centre of Tshwane, Pretoria North is in fact a suburb in its own right.

Pretoria North is an ideal suburb to stay in.  Northern Pretoria is a quiet suburb almost in a world of its own, with its subtropical climate. The smallholdings that make up the area have been transformed into a lively neighbourhood with hospitals, shopping centres, restaurants and coffee shops. This area attracts many families and older couples. It is home to both Afrikaans and English schools.  Residents tend to stay in the area and only move when up- or downgrading. Properties in Pretoria North are reasonably priced and the area has a sound infrastructure with accessible shopping facilities and amenities.

These suburbs have on offer simple lifestyles and upmarket lifestyles in security estates that don't cost quite what they would cost in the eastern parts of Pretoria.

Pretoria North properties for sale includes flats, townhouses, standalone houses, guesthouses, stands in security estates as well as ready built homes in security estates.
